- Crumble
- ¾ cup all-purpose flour
- ⅔ cup brown sugar, packed
- ¾ cup quick cooking rolled oats
- ⅓ cup melted butter
- pinch salt
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- preheat the oven to 350F
- generously butter the bottom and sides of large casserole dish (I used a soufflé dish)
- peel and chop the apples into uniform slices or chunks (photo 2, 3 and 4)
- combine the brown sugar, flour, cinnamon and salt
- add the brown sugar mixture to the apples in a large bowl and mix until the apples are coated (photo 5)
- add the apples to the buttered dish
- to make the crumble, combine the flour, brown sugar, oats, melted butter, salt and cinnamon (photo 6 and 7)
- sprinkle the crumble topping over the apples (don’t press down on the crumble; leave it loose and, well, crumbly!) (photo 8)
- place on casserole dish on the middle rack of the oven
- bake 45 to 60 minutes, or until the crumble is nicely golden brown and bubbly (photo 9)
- serve warm with ice cream (photo 10)
- serves my family of 5, including second helpings
